Planting Your Garden: Developing Your Platform as a Writer
Donny Winter, local author and Friends of Roethke board member, will guide workshop participants through two sessions designed to help writers develop and expand their social media platforms as a means to build and retain audiences.
Session I, Oct 16: Introduction to social media marketing strategies, developing your brand, and overview of various social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. During this session participants will create a marketing plan for their brand/platforms. Homework will include creating a free Canva.com account and specific social media accounts.
Session II, Oct 23: Hands-on session. Participants will develop posts for their selected platforms, considering guidelines and genre conventions for each different site. Posts will include graphic design and copywriting.
No experience necessary. All experience levels welcome.

ABOUT DONNY WINTER
Donny Winter is an LGBTQ+ poet, educator, and activist currently residing in Midland, Michigan. He teaches creative writing and composition at Delta College. He’s authored three poem collections: Casting Seeds (2022), Feats of Alchemy (2021), and Carbon Footprint (2020), each garnering a Pushcart Prize nomination. His poems have appeared in numerous magazines and journals, including Somber Midwest, Awakened Voices, CultureCult Magazine, and Millennium Pulp.
