This talk is part of the Roethke & ... Virtual Series in which contemporary poets and scholars discuss Roethke's influence on their own work and on other poets, past & present. This series was inspired by presentations given at the Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature 2025 Symposium. All events are via Zoom & begin at 7pm EST. Hosted by John Rohrkemper.

About the Speaker

Karen Lulich Horwath currently teaches high school creative writing and advanced placement English at the Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy in Saginaw, MI. Previously she directed the writing center at Delta College and taught composition at both Delta College and Saginaw Valley State University. Her creative writing has been published in Still Life and Simple Things. Karen has a deep interest in how immersion in nature can bring healing. To facilitate student experiences writing in nature, she co-directs the annual Higgins Lake Writing Retreat for high school creative writers at SASA. In her spare time, she plays keyboards with the instrumental world music band Argontos; her favorite nature hobbies include downhill skiing, hiking, distance cycling, and gardening.
