$0.00
Sold Out

Please join us on April 13 at 7:00 p.m. EST for our fourth event in the Spring Reading Series: Take a Stand, Art Against Hate, with readings from Tess Gallagher and other authors in the Take a Stand, Art Against Hate anthology.

Once registered, we will email you a Zoom link for the event. If you do not receive a Zoom link, please email us at info@friendsoftheodorereothke.org.

A $5 donation to FOTR is requested for event registration as we continue to raise money to save the Stone House.

If you do not have a PayPal account, or if the $5 is a hardship right now, please email us directly, info@friendsofroethke.org, and we will manually register you.

Take a Stand, Art against Hate is a free recorded program brought to you by Raven Chronicles Press, Third Place Books, Seattle City of Literature, Seattle Public Library Foundation, The Gary and Connie Kunis Foundation, The Seattle Times, and sponsored in part by NEA funding. Anna Balint is the moderator who describes this program as a celebration of resistance and one that offers visions of positive change through art. The anthology, Take a Stand, Art against Hate, has 170 contributors of poetry, art, essays, and fiction.

This evening's virtual program, part of the Roethke Virtual Spring Reading Series, includes several writers reading their work with the lead writer, Tess Gallagher, a Theodore Roethke Board member. She will introduce the shortened program and be available to host questions afterward. The program can be viewed in its entirety at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL0A1GwFfCQ.

"I was very glad to be a part of this program and appearing with these particular poets, one of whom, Lawrence Matsuda, I have worked with on several books and projects. The anthology, Take a Stand, Art against Hate, is one of a kind and has become more and more relevant during Black Lives Matter, and as hate crimes have begun to occur all over America with almost 4,000 such incidents against Asian people having happened this past year, a huge leap in frequency. The anthology is helping us become more aware and is preventative in that aspect, plus the poems are just good reading!"- Tess Gallagher

Tess Gallagher is a poet who has written eleven volumes of poetry. Is, Is Not, was published in May 2019 by Graywolf Press. Midnight Lantern: New and Selected Poems, also from Graywolf, is the most comprehensive offering of her poems to date. Tess's books can be purchased at Port Book and News. All copies are signed by the poet and mailed to your home.
