March 3, 2022 • POETRY WORKSHOP • All About Careers: How What We Do Reflects Who We Are

$0.00
Sold Out

7:00 – 8:30 PM EST

We are constantly told that, for the sake of our mental health, we should not bring our work home with us. How possible is this really, though? Some of us literally have to tend to our jobs after hours, and many of those who do not still simply cannot leave work-related stress in the office. And then there are times when it seems like our jobs are more than just what we do; it feels as though they define who we are. In this workshop, we will discuss how careers are presented within the words of poets and how the daily grind can inspire great art. Participants will engage in discussion of how the work world affects us, reflect on pieces of poetry with careers as a focus, and have an opportunity to produce and share their own piece on the topic. Multiple prompts will be given to help participants who need additional inspiration.

About the workshop facilitator:
Jared Morningstar is a high school English teacher at the Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy and adjunct English professor at Saginaw Valley State University and Delta College. He writes poetry and short stories that reflect his interests and observations of the world around him. Morningstar has written two collections of poetry and short fiction (American Fries and American Reality), edited an international anthology of original student short fiction (Young Voices), and he was the 2012 Michigan Council of Teachers of English Secondary Teacher of the Year and 2012 Michigan Council of Teachers of English Creative Writing Teacher of the Year. He lives in Mount Pleasant with his wife and children.
